Vertical Trust

In this life, we cling onto many different things. We discern what it is we love, and what we love becomes who we are. What is it that you chase after? What in this world can you fully put your trust in these days? What can fill that burden in your heart that says "I STILL don't have enough?"

Maybe a person has cut the rope of trust that bonded you to them. With a knife, they cut and sever the rope, harming your heart because you trusted them with all you had.

Maybe the rope you're holding isn't because you want to, and you find yourself trapped with it. Fear? People-pleasing?

"I don't want to look bad..." "If only they knew who I really was, they wouldn't like me anymore..." "I want this sin to end. My heart hurts.." "I'm ashamed."

What would happen if you let go of one of those ropes that entagle you, that lead you to nothing but heartache and bad places? What if you could open up again, and trust people with Healthy Boundaries, still loving the person, but not trapped to them? Would you who are chained to a certain area of your life turn, and look instead upon the One who could free you from the tangles that you are in?

What would it look like for us all, if we stopped looking out horizontally for the things this world has for us that often leavea us feeling empty? What if we had a Vertical Trust, that then would guide us into the proper relationships, and give us the discernment we need to grab onto good ropes, and cut off the bad ones?

Oh, we still will grab onto bad ropes that may burn us or take us into a bad place. We will fail, and fail often. We will get hurt, and we will hurt others. But God-the one we dare to trust, can cut our ropes off and heal our burns. He can guide us and teach us to learn how to have good boundaries with people who have crossed the line. He can teach us how to forgive and love again. He can be that vertical trust, that one whispering thought that will nudge you here and there with LOVE, not guilt or shame or condemnation.

It is a process, which takes us on a hard, yet beautiful journey into the blessing He wants to give us. Let's learn to put our faith in Him, and magnify Him.
